I have been practicing my skills with ink illustration in my art journal and thought I would share some of them here on the blog. This particular illustration emerged from my desire to draw something whimsical but uplifting. That was the sort of mood I was in. I hope the idea of a soaring whale balloon is both amusing and uplifting. The line work was drawn with a fountain pen before I added washes of ink and a bit of spatter.
I love your idea, the execution and everything in this journal page! That kid will surely go places with his unique whale balloon.

I keep wanting to try illustration but I don’t make time to do it. Love how expressive your piece is even though it’s B&W.

Thank you. I can relate. I find the ideas come thick and fast and I’m never short of inspiration but finding the time to get all those images down on paper – and without doing so in a rush – is definitely the tricky part.

Oh, I’m just smiling. What a great image. I think the monochrome plays to your strengths.

Thanks. I think it helps me to not concern myself with colour some time. I actually only ever used to work in monochrome – sometimes pushing myself to two colours – so it’s pretty much my comfort zone that I scurry back to. I only really started to explore colour maybe a decade ago.
